LA and Time Cost

I was on my way to get lunch for the office when I spotted this sign. How can a beer cost 2:00 and $2 at the same time?

Orwellian Slip?

"Work is victory," - Ralph Waldo Emerson

This was the quote on the famous quotes segment of Metro Tv (Tv that plays on the bus) last night. Orwellian slip?

Adventures from Los Angeles Metro

The woman riding on the bus next to me is not BIPOLAR. I repeat, not BIPOLAR.

Killing Time

This is how I kill time at the ICLA office.

Day for Midnight

I just completed my first day at my internship. It was very nice; yes I think that’s how I would describe it. It’s a bit ironic for a company that produces horror and suspense films. The office is very small, the duties are very manageable and mostly involve me reading and covering scripts. Coverage is when I summarize a script, write what is good and bad about it, and recommend or say to pass on it to the producers in the office. The experience doing coverage will help me become a better writer and better editor, if I ever decide to become a screenwriting professor.

I’d like to tell you more but I feel that I would be violating my 7 page long confidentiality statement I signed. Basically it stated that I would have to kill you all if I told you anything to avoid termination, a restraining order, a gag order, and eventual lawsuit.

The real fun started when I tried to go home, instead of doubling back like I normally do, I decided to follow LA Metro’s trip tracker directions. In about half an hour I ended up in Hollywood, a bit far away from my apartment in Burbank. For those who don’t know, I bussed right by it. After standing in front of an adult bookstore for 20 minutes and getting smiled at by a exceedingly friendly and extremely fit bicyclist, I found myself heading back towards Burbank.

On the bus I observed a couple of characters, first a man with a mustache so long it covered his mouth (like this guy without the curls) The second was a woman who was sitting up front asking another woman about her boots. The woman wearing the boots did not want to be talked to, and the woman talking didn’t seem to understand that.

I’ll conclude today with two things, one of my finds on the Hollywood walk of fame.

And this: Rush Limbaugh opinion about president Obama.

The First 15 Rundown

So it’s near midnight on Sunday night. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been here for two weeks. The weather, for those of you in Ithaca and Cohoes, is a warm 70 degrees. I know this is infuriating to you, so the blog will no longer involve any weather reports after this post. It rained a couple of days ago. Danny Romero of KABC Los Angeles seemed shocked to deliver the rainy forecast on the segment entitled “Winter Weather Watch.”

I just returned from the Arclight movie theater in Hollywood, my first homework assignment for Screenwriting Workshop was to watch The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke. I’ve included a link to the trailer for those who haven’t seen it. It’s definitely not a bad choice if you are willing to spend the small fortune on a movie ticket.

Tomorrow I start work with Midnight Entertainment, a production company specializing in low budget thrillers, suspense and horror films. The company is Wes Craven and his producing partner, whose name I can’t remember. (Probably not a good thing because she is going to be my boss.) The hours are pretty good 10-6 on Monday and Friday. I’ll report on that tomorrow. The company is really small so I plan on knowing everyone in the office, which is really cool. I probably won’t have to learn how to use an industrial size coffee maker either which is a plus. Here is a link to the trailer of Midnight’s next movie, a remake of a 1972 film that some of you may remember.

The bus is probably going to be my favorite part about LA. Everyone complains that public transportation is awful here, but I’m pretty sure everyone who has said that has never taken public transportation. It’s very easy to navigate and the bus driver only sighs a little bit if you ask them questions. The hardest part is navigating which corner you have to be on. On the website they give you southeast or northwest. Unfortunately I left my compass at home, but have only missed one bus so far.

Well I never know how to end these so I’ll end with a bible quote. It’s something I’ve been thinking about using in my next screenplay. Those of you who know my idea will get the connection. And for those who don’t a semi-apt inspirational quote for a person in my shoes.

Go on your way: see, I send you out like lambs among wolves.
